DRINKING/DRUGS/SMOKING - Infrequent references to a character possessing illegal drugs. Milder terms and discriminatory terms are also frequently spoken throughout the film. There is also some very strong language (c**t), most of which is said between family members in a domestic environment. PROFANITY - Frequent strong language (f**k) is said almost throughout every scene. There are some references to a person being set on fire while they were raped by another person. Another scene depicts a man who is continuously punched and kicked while he lay bleeding on the floor. VIOLENCE/GORE - Occasional scenes of explicit strong violence include a brutal beating of a man who is repeatedly punched and thrown out of a window. Constant references to the rape of a teenage girl are also evident, but the film as a whole portrays this subject as a degrading and negative act. Some examples of very strong sex references is when a man describes what he has done to a girl, using strong profanity to emphasise his sexually violent actions towards his victim. SEX/NUDITY - There are frequent strong verbal sex references and occasional very strong sex references. Definitely aimed more towards maturer audiences, but just fine for teens. There is violence and talk about rape, and there is a lot of swearing. Great movie, really beautiful visually, and well worth the watch. Though I’m not very sure about Frances McDormand's character in the end, I’m not sure how much of the hate actually left her, definitely some, though I didn’t see a huge major come around/change for her like we do with Jason Dixon. It's up to the audience to tell if a character is good, right, or justified in what they're doing, and if they're redeemed in the end, etc.
The moral ambiguity of the characters was something I really loved, as none of the characters are good people, they're realistic, with faults and issues.

For most of the movie I wanted nothing more than for Sam Rockwell's character to get his comeuppance, he was such an unlikable character, I never would have expected I would actually kind of sympathize with him and like him a little in the end, also Sam Rockwell is an amazing actor, as always. The dialogue and story is amazing, and the ambiguous redemption arc was so well done. It’s an impactful movie about hate and its vicious cycle, as well as the heavy subject of rape culture. Really great movie, Martin McDonough is one of my favorite directors, and Carter Burwell is one of my favorite composers.
